STYLE: THE RIGHT GEAR FOR TRAINING OUTDOORS + LOOKING COOL AT THE SAME TIME

I’ve always been a fan of training outdoors. There’s something about training outside that really energizes my workouts. It could be breathing in the fresh air, getting some natural light and taking in a little scenery. It doesn’t even matter if it’s really cold outside. In a weird way, it pumps me up for my workout even more. It’s like I’m Rocky Balboa for a moment and I’m pushing past the discomfort of the elements (I think I’ve watched one too many action hero movies as a kid.)

When taking your workout outdoors, it’s important to factor in the gear you wear. I like to wear items that will keep me warm but allow me to move freely. I’m typically moving throughout my workout quickly so staying warm isn’t a major factor. Once my core temperature starts to rise, it’s more important to be wearing something that will allow me to cool off.

I recently visited my local Sport Chek to pick up some much-needed winter training gear! I picked up a matching classic Adidas Trefoil Crew & Adidas 3-Stripe Fleece Pants and a new pair of triple black Adidas Stan Smiths. This choice was part functional but also so that I can train in style. I took my new training gear with me to my recent trip to NYC and I figured there’s no better way to explore the city than to go for a run.

This was one of the best runs I’ve ever had. I was able to get an epic view of the Manhattan city skyline from the historic Brooklyn Bridge while working up a sweat.

It was really great to see so many other people running and walking this bridge too. In true instagrammer fashion, I couldn’t leave the bridge without performing some kind of physical feat (see the human flag pictured above). This lead to a passerby yelling out, “that’s gonna look great on the gram!”

The best part of my new gear is that I didn’t have to change out of my clothes to go to brunch afterwards. I threw on a wool coat overtop of my look and went from workout wear to street style ready in no time.

If you’re looking for new training gear for the new year, make sure to check out Sport Chek in store or online.
